Nature-based Practices in Early Childhood Education

Overview
Join our four-part Professional Learning Community (PLC) to explore nature-based practices in Early Childhood Education.  We will learn about practices for exploring outdoors with young children, as well as bringing the natural world indoors. Each of the modules will build on the previous week’s learning and invite participants to apply learning to their unique setting. This training will actively engage participants through images, video, dialogue, practical application, and group reflection. The course consists of six hours of content, divided into four modules.

Module 1: Nature-based philosophy and practice: An Overview
Module 2: Planning the indoor and outdoor learning environment
Module 3: Enriching the curriculum with nature-based practices
Module 4: Communicating learning through documentation practices
Objective
  • Deepen understanding of nature-based philosophy and practices in early childhood education through exploration and discussion.
  • Engage in critical reflection to consider diverse approaches for planning and enriching indoor and outdoor learning environments with nature-based elements.
  • Apply and adapt strategies for documenting and communicating learning in nature-based education to support meaningful experiences for children.
