Creating Literacy and Math Rich Environments Throughout the Day

Course Number
CS03: 48_EN
Overview
This training will help teachers consider how every learning center can incorporate both literacy and math elements. Once a teacher begins to expand these components throughout the classroom, the teacher will also see how easy and fun it is to integrate these into any lesson. Participants will learn about the various domains of literacy and math and learn how to facilitate those areas through relevant, meaningful everyday occurrences during classroom routines.
Objective
  • Explore the six stages of block play, learning how to integrate various components of STEAM, while identifying social-emotional strategies (such as problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills) to support young children in planning and carrying out activities that align with math and science outcomes.
  • Focus on fostering children’s natural curiosity as emerging scientists and mathematicians, and explore effective ways to teach math and science concepts in systematic approaches that engage their inherent curiosity.
  • Discuss and share daily learning opportunities that enhance language development through daily routines and classroom learning centers, fostering a rich language environment.
  • Align classroom activities with language acquisition goals, ensuring that learning experiences support and promote children’s language development in meaningful ways.
