Overview

This comprehensive six-part Professional Learning Community (PLC) is designed to equip early childhood educators with the knowledge, skills, and tools to become effective peer mentors. Participants will explore mentorship practices that foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within their programs. Each session will focus on real-world scenarios, providing practical strategies and opportunities for reflection and discussion. By the end of the PLC, participants will be prepared to support and guide their peers in enhancing daily practice and deepening professional relationships.




Objective
  1. Participants will be able to explain the purpose of the mentorship program, identify key qualities of effective mentors, and distinguish mentoring from coaching and supervision.
  2. Participants will be able to identify and apply key relationship-building skills to strengthen their role as a mentor. 
  3. Participants will be able to analyze and apply reflective practice techniques to support effective mentoring relationships.
  4. Participants will be able to apply culturally sustaining practices and demonstrate cultural humility by recognizing and addressing implicit bias in their mentoring role. 
  5. Participants will be able to identify and apply adult learning principles to strengthen their mentoring practice.

Peer Mentoring in Practice Eligibility:
All EEC professionals who work in EEC Family Child Care programs, Family Child Care systems, Center Based classrooms or Out of School Time settings in any EEC region in MA are eligible.
Participants are required to find their own mentee to work with before the course starts. Those who supervise may not mentor a supervisee but may mentor a peer with similar job responsibilities.
After initially enrolling for this course, you will receive the following message:  Registration Status: REGISTRATION PENDING/REQUIRING APPROVAL. The facilitator will then follow-up with you to confirm eligibility to complete enrollment.

This PLC can be used to fulfill the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care's required hours of professional development that address diverse learners.
All participants must be registered in order to receive EEC Training Hours for their participation.
